Kyushu is located to the most west of Japan and is one of the four major Japanese islands. "Kyushu" means nine states in Japanese. Until the end of the Edo Age, there were "Chikuzen", "Chikugo", "Hizen", "Higo", "Houzen", "Hougo", "Hyuga", "Satsuma" and "Osumi" statesin Kyushu.
Kyushu now has seven prefectures. They are Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki and Kagoshima.
Often, Okinawa is categolized as a part of Kyushu. This page does not include Okinawa in Kyushu Area, because Okinawa has their own history and culture. Please refer the below linked page of Okinawa:

The location of Kyushu is close to Korea and China, who were far advanced countries in the past, especially before the tenth century. Japan at that time introduced many advanced things, including cultures from these countries through Kyushu. There are many historical sites related to China and Korea in Kyushu.
Kyushu is an island and many mountains occupy the island, there are a couple of places with beautiful schenery.
