From Deva Gate, "Niomon Gate" of Kiyomizu Temple, Kiyomizu-zaka Slope extends westward toward the downtown area of Kyoto as a downgrade.
This is the main street to and from Kiyomizu Temple.
Both sides of Kiyomizu-zaka Slope are lined with souvenir shops and many tourists walk on the slope.
Kiyomizu-zaka
A small and narrow slope with stone steps is branched off from Kiyomizu-zaka Slope. This slope is "Sannei-zaka" slope.
There is a stone monument on the slope, indicating "Sannei-zaka" Slope in Japanese as shown in the top picture.
You are able to visit Kodaiji Temple through "Sannei-zaka" Slope.
"Sannei-zaka" Slope is well-known and popular to those who visit Kyoto.
Old Kyoto styled houses are along the slope and the "Sannei-zaka" area remains old Kyoto atmosphere.
Japanese style restaurant "Akebono" is on the slope. "Akebono" has long history.
In 1864 at the end of the Edo Age, the battle happened between samurais, one side who wished to continue the Edo Age and the other side who wished to end it.
Many of historical events happened in Kyoto at that time.

A narrow street stretches from the foot of "Sannei-zaka" Slop.
Many souvenir shops line along this street. Also, many tourists walk on this street.
It may be recomended to walk on this street on weekdays especially in the morning, when fewer people walk on the street.
