Daiouji Temple in Tochigi
Daiouji Temple was built in 1404 and was a family temple of OZEKI Clan, who used to be feudal lords of the Kurobane Domain. On the way to Kurobane Castle from Ungangi Temple, there was an entrance of Daiouji Temple. Originally I had no plan to visit the temple, but walked into the temple because the atmosphere the temple looked nice. You will soon arrive at the Sanmon Gate in front of the main temple buildings, after going up a gentle slope and stone stairs. While going further up stone stairs, the Front Gate is located. The Front Gate has a thatched roof. It is seldom that to see temple buildings with a thatched roof. The atmosphere of the temple was very nice. |

A corridor connects main temple buildings. Main temple buildings and a corridor also have a thatched roof. The Main Hall of Daiouji Temple is located just in front of you, after you go through the Front Gate, as shown in the below picture. On your left, Zazen-do Hall is located.
These temple buildings were built in 1448 and are designated as important properties of Japan. |
