Mt. Gozaisho

The view of Mt. Kamagatake from Mt. Gozaisho

Mt. Gozaisho is the main peak of the Suzuka Mountains, located between Mie and Shiga Prefectures.
Suzuka Mountains are aligned from north to south. The mountains have cliffs and steep slopes towards the east in Mie Prefecture. As plain fields are spread at the base of the mountains to the east, you will see Mt. Gozaisho and Suzuka Mountains from Chita Peninsula across Ise-Bay.

You can go to the top of Mt. Gozaisho by Ropeway from the foot of the mountain. The view of Mt. Gozaisho from Yunoyama Station at the foot of Mt. Gozaisho is spectacular.

You will see steep cliffs from a gondola of the Ropeway. Because of these steep cliffs, Mt. Gozaisho is well-known as a good training place for climbers.

The sixth steel tower of the ropeway is the highest ropeway tower in Japan being 61 meter in height. If you are acrophobic, you will be scared with this height and view.

It will take you 12 minutes from Yunoyama Station to Sanjyo-Koen Station. An observation deck is available near Sanjyo-Koen Station. You will see a spectacular view of a plain at the base of Mt. Gozaisho.

Mt. Kamagatake, other Suzuka mountains, Yokkaichi, Ise-Bay and Chita Peninsula can be seen from Mt. Gozaisho. If it is fine and a clear day, you will also be able to see Mt. Fuji. There are small stone shrines perched on large rocks.

The temperature at Mt. Gozaisho is approximately seven degree C cooler than that at the foot of the mountain. It is a good place to escape from very hot and humid weather in summer. In winter, you can enjoy sking there. Also, beautiful snow views are available.

The peak of Mt. Gozaisho is 100 meters west of the ropeway station. You can take a ski lift there.
