Mt. Hakodate

Mt. Hakodate is a land-tied island, located at the south end of the Oshima Peninsula. Hakodate city is developed on a sandbar to Mt. Hakodate.

The altitude of Mt. Hakodate is just 334 meters, however you will see Mt. Hakodate from everywhere in Hakodate city. Mt. Hakodate is well known for a beautiful night view. It is said that the night view from Mt. Hakodate is one of three major night views in the world.

After visiting Motomachi Historical District, located at the foot of Mt. Hakodate, I went to Mt. Hakodate by ropeway.

The view of Hakodate city from the observation deck at the top of Mt. Hakodate was spectacular. It was just after sunset, and the lights of the town had just started to be turned on. In getting dark, the lights of the town became brighter and brighter.

Winter is the best season to see the night view of Hakodate from Mt. Hakodate, because the air is usually very clear when it is fine. It was in November when I visited Mt. Hakodate. Being at the top of Mt. Hakodate was very cold.

After staying at the top of Mt. Hakodate for almost an hour, finally it became completely dark. The night view of Hakodate became very beautiful like a jewel box.

This night view was really magnificent.
